This maternity session in West San Antonio felt like spending time with close friends — because that’s exactly what it was.
The evening was quiet, warm, and full of the kind of comfort that only happens when people trust you completely. They brought their dogs, leaned into the soft fall light, and wore neutral tones that worked effortlessly with the field around us.
Dogs, Fields, and a Growing Family
We kept things simple: one open field, two people about to become parents, and their dogs trotting between us like it was their job to be involved.
Nothing felt overdone. Just honest connection and a family stepping into a new chapter — together.
Letting pets be part of these moments always adds something real. They’re not an add-on — they’re part of the family. So of course, they belong in the photos too.

Fall for Maternity Sessions
The light in fall is different — especially in South Texas. Softer. More directional. Add in the dried grass and warm tones, and you get a natural backdrop that doesn’t need help. The weather normally cooperates, too.
We didn’t race the sunset. We moved slow. They were present, and it showed.

Where to Take Maternity Photos in San Antonio
Wondering where to shoot your own maternity session? You’ve got options — whether you’re into wide open nature, quiet studios, or somewhere with architectural texture.
Here are a few favorite spots:
🌿 Outdoor Locations:
- Friedrich Wilderness Park – great views, walking trails, and open fields
- Brackenridge Park – lots of variety (trees, bridges, and open lawn)
- Government Canyon – beautiful light and very quiet
- Woodlawn Lake Park – water views with an easygoing vibe
- Private land
🏡 In-Studio Options:
If you want a more controlled space (especially in summer or unpredictable weather), studios in San Antonio are a great option. Clean backdrops, soft window light, and no crowd.
Need recommendations? I’m happy to send a list of minimal, natural-light studios that keep the focus on you.
Can We Bring Our Pets?
Yes. Always. As long as the location allows it, I fully encourage bringing your dog (or dogs!) along. They’re part of your life — and your photos should reflect that.
If you’re doing a studio session, let’s double-check ahead of time. But for most outdoor sessions in and around San Antonio, dogs are welcome.
